The 2024 ATP Finals are set to officially begin. On Sunday, November 10, the season’s top eight players in both singles and doubles will compete for the prestigious title of Player of the Year. Four matches are scheduled at the Pala Alpitour in Turin for the men’s singles category.
The day’s singles play opens with a clash between Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz. The Russian, currently ranked world No. 4, is coming off a rough patch, with three consecutive losses—two against Sinner and one to Australia’s Popyrin in the round of 32 at the Paris ATP. The American has faced similar struggles, having been eliminated in France by Jack Draper in a three-set battle, after previously losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals in Shanghai.
Local favorite and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will go up against Alex De Minaur. The Italian is in top form, leading all rankings and fresh off wins at the Shanghai Masters 1000 and a lucrative tournament in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the Australian, currently ranked ninth, was recently knocked out by Denmark’s Rune in the quarterfinals in Paris after a grueling three-set match.
The doubles competition opens with a standout match between the Dutch pair Koolhof-Mektic and the Australian duo Purcell-Thompson. Koolhof-Mektic recently clinched the title in France with a straight-set victory over Glasspool and Pavlasek, while Purcell-Thompson were eliminated in the same tournament’s semifinals. The final match will feature title favorites Granollers-Zeballos taking on Heliovaara-Patten. This could be a challenging encounter for the Spanish-Argentine duo, as their opponents pushed the eventual French ATP winners to their limits in the quarterfinals.
