The 2025 Australian Open draw has revealed the matchups for the first Grand Slam of the year. All eyes are on Jannik Sinner, the defending champion seeking his third career Slam title, as well as the other Italian players eager to make their mark on the Melbourne hard courts.
Sinner will begin his title defense against Chilean Nicolas Jarry (world No. 34). Although the Italian recently defeated Jarry in Beijing, the Chilean remains a dangerous opponent with his powerful serve. Sinner's path through the draw could feature tough challenges, including a potential round-of-16 clash with Holger Rune and a quarterfinal showdown against Australian favorite Alex de Minaur. However, the absence of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in his half of the draw provides some breathing room, as he would only face one of them in a possible final.
Djokovic, who opens against wild card Nishesh Basavareddy, could meet Reilly Opelka in the round of 16. On the opposite side of the draw, Carlos Alcaraz will face Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko in the first round, with a potential quarterfinal encounter against Djokovic—arguably the most anticipated match of the tournament.
Other key players to watch include Daniil Medvedev, who takes on Kasidit Samrej, and Taylor Fritz, who will face compatriot Jenson Brooksby.
There are also several exciting matchups involving the Italian contingent. Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Arnaldi will battle in an all-Italian derby in the upper half of the draw. Flavio Cobolli will face Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry, with the possibility of meeting Sinner in the third round.
