It's always Olimpia Milano versus Virtus Bologna. From the Playoff Finals for the Scudetto to the Italian Supercoppa, the two great rivals have delivered another spectacular final, adding a new chapter to the storied rivalry in Italian basketball. In the 2024 edition of the Supercoppa, it was Coach Messina's Olimpia who emerged victorious after an intensely fought and tightly contested game, decided only after an overtime period. The final score was 98-96 after 45 minutes of play.
Bologna started strong, even leading by 15 points in the first half, but they were unable to hold off the comeback led by Mirotic and Nebo, the latter being the top scorer of the final with 20 points and 9 rebounds. The first quarter ended 26-17, and in the second period, Virtus extended their lead to 15 points (37-22) before closing the first half ahead 47-36.
However, in the second half, Nebo and his teammates took charge: Olimpia's newcomer, along with Mirotic and Dimitrijevic, led the run that allowed Milano to tie the game at 53 early in the third quarter. From that moment on, the game was played point by point until an 84-all tie forced the overtime. The decisive moment came with an 8-0 run that put Bologna away, denying Coach Banchi's team the chance to win the Supercoppa for the fourth consecutive time.
The MVP of the competition was Nenad Dimitrijevic, the Macedonian point guard who joined Olimpia in the summer and made an excellent official debut under Coach Messina's guidance. From Virtus to Venezia and Napoli, the other two Supercoppa semifinalists: the league is back in action, with everyone chasing Olimpia Milano, the reigning Italian champion. EA7 once again proves to be the team to beat.
