Brentford have secured the services of seasoned midfielder Jordan Henderson, bringing in experience and leadership to replace former captain Christian Nørgaard, who recently joined Arsenal.
The 35-year-old English international is set to return to the Premier League after leaving Ajax. According to Sky Sports UK, the deal is all but done: Henderson is expected to sign with the London club just 24 hours after parting ways with the Dutch side. Brentford, owned by Matthew Benham, have moved quickly to fill the void left in midfield.
After a brief and underwhelming stint with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia — at least from a sporting perspective — Henderson returned to Europe in January 2024. At Ajax, he featured prominently, making 29 league appearances with 1 goal and 4 assists, as well as 9 Europa League matches, including 7 starts, and delivering an additional assist.
Henderson’s illustrious career is closely tied to his time at Liverpool, where he wore the armband and played 492 matches, scoring 33 goals and providing 58 assists. During his 12-year tenure at Anfield, he won:
Premier League (2020)
Champions League (2019)
UEFA Super Cup (2019)
FIFA Club World Cup (2019)
FA Cup (2022)
EFL Cup (2012, 2022)
Capped 84 times for England, with 3 international goals, Henderson arrives at Brentford with a wealth of top-flight experience. His presence is expected to bolster the Bees’ midfield, bringing composure, tactical intelligence, and invaluable leadership qualities.
