Freiburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt could prove decisive, while Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig chase European hopes

The final matchday of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season promises high drama and tension, even with the title already secured and relegation spots confirmed. What remains at stake are the final European places — including the coveted Champions League qualification — and a potential playoff to avoid the drop.

The headline clash is undoubtedly the Champions League showdown between Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, a direct duel at the Europa-Park Stadion that could turn into heartbreak for one of the two clubs.

Waiting in the wings is Borussia Dortmund, who host already-relegated Kiel and could leapfrog either of the two above with a win — regardless of the result in Freiburg. Meanwhile, Mainz will be keeping a close eye on the Dortmund game as they host Bayer Leverkusen, hoping to at least lock down sixth place and hold off any late charge.

RB Leipzig still cling to faint hopes of a European berth as well — they’ll need Mainz to slip up while pulling off a result against one of the season’s biggest disappointments: Stuttgart.

At the other end of the table, the relegation playoff spot is still undecided. Hoffenheim only need a draw to secure safety as they face champions Bayern Munich. The same goes for St. Pauli, who play bottom-of-the-table Bochum at home. Heidenheim, meanwhile, need a win and help from elsewhere. They’ll take on a Werder Bremen side still mathematically in the race for a Conference League spot.

Two fixtures — Augsburg vs Union Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Wolfsburg — round out the matchday, with only pride and final standings at stake.
