Chelsea are the first team through to the Club World Cup final. Maresca’s side defeated Fluminense in the semi-finals and will now face the winner of the blockbuster clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
The star of the night was Joao Pedro. Making his first start for the Blues, the Brazilian striker scored both goals to lead his team to victory. After a slow start, Chelsea struck with their first real chance in the 18th minute as Joao Pedro fired in a brilliant long-range effort to open the scoring. Fluminense struggled to react, with their best opportunity in the first half falling to Hercules, whose shot was cleared off the line by Cucurella.
The decisive second goal arrived in the 56th minute, this time with Joao Pedro finishing clinically from inside the box, leaving goalkeeper Fabio with no chance. Chelsea pushed for more late on, with both Nkunku and Jackson missing clear opportunities, while Cucurella came close to scoring as well.
In the end, Fluminense could not find a way back, and the Blues secured their place in the final.
