Manchester City’s Champions League qualification remains on hold after a frustrating 0-0 draw against bottom-placed Southampton. Despite facing a side with the league’s worst attack and defense, Guardiola’s men couldn’t find a breakthrough at St Mary’s.
The first half offered little to shout about. City dominated possession but rarely threatened, with De Bruyne’s free kick that skimmed the crossbar the only real highlight. The second half saw more urgency: Stephens cleared a Bernardo Silva effort off the line, Ramsdale denied Haaland and Savinho, and later produced a flying save on Dias’ header. In stoppage time, substitute Marmoush rattled the crossbar with a thunderous strike. Southampton avoided setting an all-time Premier League low by securing their twelfth point.
Elsewhere in the top-four chase, Aston Villa took a vital step forward with a 1-0 win at Bournemouth. Watkins scored the only goal on the stroke of halftime, and despite Ramsey’s red card in the 80th minute, Villa held firm.
Brentford also enjoyed success on the road, defeating Ipswich Town 1-0 thanks to Schade’s towering header from a corner in the 18th minute. Brighton left Molineux with a 2-0 win over Wolves. After an early scare from Guedes, Welbeck converted a penalty following a foul on Wieffer, and Gruda sealed the win late with a delicate chip.
The match of the day belonged to Everton, who came from behind to beat Fulham 3-1 in London. Raul Jimenez had opened the scoring for the hosts with a powerful header, but Mykolenko leveled deep into first-half injury time with a deflected strike. The Toffees turned the tide in the second half: Keane headed in from a corner, and Beto added the final blow with a sharp finish after a swift counterattack.
