Lautaro Martínez answers Sergio Ramos, but the Nerazzurri settle for a draw. River win, Fluminense and Dortmund share spoils

Cristian Chivu’s first match as Inter manager ended in a lacklustre 1–1 draw against Monterrey in the Club World Cup opener. The Mexican side took the lead in the 24th minute through veteran Sergio Ramos, before Lautaro Martínez brought Inter level just before the break.

In the same Group E, River Plate began their campaign with a convincing 3–1 win over Urawa Reds Diamonds. Colidio opened the scoring in the 12th minute, Driussi doubled the lead shortly after the break, and although Matsuo pulled one back from the spot in the 58th, Meza sealed the result in the 73rd.

Elsewhere, Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund battled to a goalless draw, while South African side Mamelodi Sundowns edged past Ulsan Hyundai thanks to a 36th-minute strike from Rayners.
