Following the last edition's victory by Juventus, the Coppa Italia 2024-2025 will officially begin in less than three weeks. The first elimination phase will start on August 3, involving all clubs from Serie A, Serie B, and four from Serie C. The familiar format, confirmed for the next three seasons, includes 44 clubs competing with the sole objective of winning the trophy. The final will be played on May 14.
The initial matches will feature newly promoted Serie B teams and Serie C teams such as Catania, Avellino, Carrarese, Juve Stabia, Torre, Mantova, Cesena, and Padova. Gradually, all other teams will join, culminating with the top nine Serie A teams entering in December. Notably, Conte's Napoli will debut on August 10 against Modena.
Among the new features, penalty shootouts will be the sole method to decide tied matches from the preliminary phase until the quarterfinals, without extra time. The semifinals and finals will include extra time and penalties if necessary, with the semifinals played over two legs. Yellow cards will be cleared after the Round of 16, and VAR will be introduced from the Round of 32. Goal Line Technology and Semi-automated Offside will be used starting from the Round of 16.
The left side of the bracket, inevitably, favors defending champions Juventus. Potential rivals from the quarterfinals onwards include Fiorentina, Torino, Atalanta, and Bologna. The right side is much more challenging, with Milan, Inter, Lazio, and Roma all battling for a place in the final.
