England, the reigning European champions, will face world champions Spain in the Women’s Euro final on Sunday in Basel, with kick-off at 18:00.
The two sides have already met twice in 2025 in the Nations League. In February, England claimed a 1-0 victory at Wembley thanks to a goal from Jess Park. But in June, Spain turned the tables: despite trailing at half-time to an Alessia Russo strike, a Claudia Pina brace secured the comeback, and with it Spain’s spot in the final stage – at England’s expense.
Their most famous clash, however, came in the 2023 World Cup final in Sydney, where an Olga Carmona goal sealed a historic 1-0 win for Spain. Remarkably, this is the first time a Women’s World Cup final is being replayed at the following European Championship.
In the past, the reverse scenario happened: Germany defeated Sweden in the Euro 2001 final – and then again in the 2003 World Cup final, both times courtesy of a golden goal.
