The iconic Meazza stadium was considered one of the few certainties, alongside Turin’s Allianz Stadium, in Italy’s proposed Euro 2032 venue list

San Siro will not host any matches at UEFA Euro 2032. That was the clear and bitter outcome of the latest summit held on 17 July at Palazzo Marino between Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala and representatives from the FIGC, UEFA, Inter and AC Milan. The conclusion: the current San Siro does not meet UEFA’s required standards to host matches at the 2032 European Championship, to be co-hosted by Italy and Turkey.

The revelation comes as a real shock, considering San Siro was seen as a cornerstone in Italy’s stadium shortlist. For now, only the Allianz Stadium in Turin is officially deemed compliant for Euro 2032 fixtures. By October 2026, the Italian FA must submit to UEFA the final list of five approved stadiums. Rome’s Stadio Olimpico is in the mix but will require substantial upgrades to meet the minimum standards.

Back to Milan: the meeting confirmed that even a major refurbishment would not be enough to bring San Siro up to par. Both Inter and Milan are now actively considering building a new stadium. As things stand, the city of Milan faces the serious risk of being excluded from the list of the 10 final host cities selected by the FIGC.

Elsewhere in Italy, the outlook isn’t much brighter. Stadiums in Bari, Naples, Florence, Bologna, Genoa, Verona and Cagliari all require significant redevelopment if they are to be considered viable options for Euro 2032.
