Second consecutive victory for the Scuderia after Leclerc’s win in Austin. Sainz finishes third behind Norris

It’s celebration time again for Ferrari. Following the 1-2 finish in Austin, the Maranello team claims another victory in Mexico with Carlos Sainz. This marks Ferrari’s second consecutive win, fueling hopes for the Constructors’ Championship. They’ve already surpassed Red Bull in the standings, now setting their sights on McLaren, with Norris and Piastri holding a 29-point lead and only four races remaining in the 2024 season.

The Mexican Grand Prix was largely dominated by Carlos Sainz. Despite being overtaken at the start by Max Verstappen, Sainz reclaimed the lead after the Safety Car with a bold pass on the reigning champion. Verstappen then engaged in a fierce battle with his title rival, Lando Norris, picking up as much as 20 seconds in penalties and effectively jeopardizing his race. Charles Leclerc took advantage as well, running close behind Sainz for much of the race until Norris's strong comeback for McLaren.

Once within DRS range of Leclerc, Norris forced the Monegasque driver into an error, almost sending him into the wall on the final straight. This mistake cost Leclerc second place, leaving him to round off the Mexican GP podium in third.

Meanwhile, after his penalties, Max Verstappen finished in sixth place, just behind the two Mercedes of Hamilton and Russell. With four races left, including two Sprint Races in Brazil and Qatar, Norris has closed the gap to 47 points. The Constructors’ Championship battle is even tighter: after the Mexican Grand Prix, Ferrari extended their lead over Red Bull to 25 points and are now only 29 points behind McLaren. Next weekend, the action resumes in Brazil.
