The British driver dominates at Yas Marina, while Ferrari’s efforts fall short despite Sainz’s second-place finish and Leclerc’s stunning comeback to third

The 2024 Formula 1 season came to a dramatic conclusion in Abu Dhabi, where the final race decided the Constructors’ Championship between McLaren and Ferrari. Despite a valiant effort, Ferrari couldn’t complete the comeback. Their hopes were reignited right at the start, when Verstappen and Piastri collided at Turn 1, forcing one of the two McLaren drivers out of the race.

Leclerc launched an incredible charge from 19th to 8th on the opening lap, while Sainz slotted in just behind Lando Norris. But the British driver was untouchable, leading from lights to flag without giving Ferrari a chance. Despite Leclerc’s heroic drive to third and Sainz’s runner-up finish, Norris’ dominant victory sealed the Constructors’ Championship for McLaren, bringing the British team back to the top of the Formula 1 world.

Off the podium, Lewis Hamilton delivered another stellar performance, charging from 16th to 4th after a last-lap pass on teammate George Russell. The seven-time world champion bids an emotional farewell to Mercedes, ending the most successful chapter in Formula 1 history. Next stop: Ferrari.

Behind Hamilton and Russell was newly crowned world champion Max Verstappen, while Sergio Perez’s race ended in heartbreak. The Mexican driver, possibly making his final appearance for Red Bull, was forced to retire following a first-lap collision.

With the season now over, Formula 1 heads into its winter break - but for fans, the countdown to the next thrilling season has already begun.
