After years of near-misses, the England captain celebrates his first career title as Bayern clinch the league thanks to Leverkusen’s draw in Freiburg

The wait is over for Harry Kane. After over a decade of chasing glory, the England striker has secured his first major club title: the Bundesliga crown with Bayern Munich. The confirmation came off the pitch — while dining in a Munich restaurant, Kane watched Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw at Freiburg, a result that handed Bayern their 34th German league title.

Kane joined the Bavarian giants in the summer of 2023 for a record €100 million fee, making headlines not just for the transfer but also for his ambition to finally lift silverware. And while his debut season included some disappointments — such as a heavy defeat in the German Super Cup and the unstoppable rise of Leverkusen — Kane’s individual brilliance stood out. He ended the league with 36 goals, earning the Bundesliga Golden Boot and the European Golden Shoe.

“He deserves this more than anyone,” said Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness. “He’s a goal machine and a true team player.”

Kane celebrated the long-awaited success with a social media post and a video singing Queen’s “We Are the Champions” with teammates. Until now, his career had been marked by painful losses: six finals without a win, including Euro 2021 and Euro 2024 with England, and the 2019 Champions League final with Tottenham.

Despite those setbacks, Kane remains one of the most prolific and respected forwards of his generation. He is England’s all-time leading scorer (71 goals), top scorer at the 2018 World Cup (6 goals), and has led scoring charts in both the Premier League and Bundesliga.

With two years left on his Bayern contract, Kane has more chances to add to his trophy cabinet. This summer brings the Club World Cup in the U.S. and the new “Franz Beckenbauer” German Super Cup. Then comes another attempt at Champions League glory.

For the national team, Kane remains the unquestioned leader. Former Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel, who managed him from March 2023 to May 2024, reaffirmed his captaincy. Kane is expected to lead the Three Lions into the 2026 World Cup and is aiming for one last shot at European glory in Euro 2028, set to take place in England — a chance to finally bring football home.
