Martin wins, with Acosta and Bagnaia on the podium. Bad luck for Bastianini and Marquez, while Vinales secures a solid sixth place

Jorge Martin redeemed himself after Saturday's Sprint error with an outstanding performance in Indonesia, taking the Grand Prix victory and strengthening his position in the championship. With this win, the Spanish rider from Ducati Pramac keeps Pecco Bagnaia at a distance, who is now 21 points behind in the MotoGP standings.

Post-race, race direction confirmed Pedro Acosta's second place, despite an initial investigation into an irregular tire pressure. The checks revealed the issue was due to a damaged wheel, allowing Acosta to retain his runner-up finish.

Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzecchi also put in excellent performances, finishing right behind Bagnaia. Unfortunately, it was a tough day for Enea Bastianini, who crashed on lap 21 while fighting for third place. Marc Marquez also had to retire due to a mechanical issue with his Ducati, which suffered an oil leak.

Early in the race, a crash further back on the grid involved Jack Miller, Luca Marini, Aleix Espargaro, and Alex Marquez, forcing them all to retire.

This marks Martin’s third victory of the 2024 season, a much-needed success after his last win at the French GP. Martin showcased consistency and control throughout the weekend, keeping Bagnaia at bay. The Italian rider managed to recover several positions after a difficult start but was never really in contention for the win, although he did slightly close the gap to the championship leader from 24 to 21 points.

Bagnaia had to contend with a less-than-ideal race pace and a challenging start, while Acosta showed excellent control in holding onto second place after staying close to Martin in the early stages. Bastianini, unfortunately, crashed while trying to catch up to the two Spaniards. Bagnaia eventually overtook Morbidelli and Bezzecchi, who both put up a solid fight until the end.

Marc Marquez’s race ended due to a mechanical failure, with an oil leak that led to a small fire on his bike. Before his retirement, Marquez had an exciting duel with Fabio Di Giannantonio, who also crashed shortly after. Jack Miller was another victim of bad luck, crashing at the start and taking down Alex Marquez, Luca Marini, and Aleix Espargaro in the process. Meanwhile, Aprilia can be pleased with Maverick Vinales’ strong sixth-place finish.
