The Italian Super Cup will once again feature a Final Four format in the 2025/26 season. Serie A clubs, meeting in Milan for a general assembly, voted to maintain the current setup, which includes the top two finishers in the league and both Coppa Italia finalists.
The EA SPORTS FC Supercup still awaits a confirmed location. Saudi Arabia, which holds the rights to host two of the next four editions, has yet to decide which years it will stage the tournament. That decision is expected by the end of April.
“It was a constructive day of dialogue and collaboration among clubs,” said Serie A president Ezio Simonelli. “We’ve laid the groundwork for our new internal commissions and made key decisions, including the continuation of the Super Cup format. Now we await the organizers’ choice regarding the host country.”
The assembly also addressed the start date of the next Serie A season. While some clubs pushed for an earlier kickoff around mid-August—aligning with other European leagues—the majority preferred a later start. The new proposed opening weekend is August 23–24.
This decision was influenced by the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in mid-June. With Inter and Juventus set to compete, an earlier Serie A start could have created a scheduling bottleneck. Should either club reach the Club World Cup final on July 13, they would be left with little time for rest and preseason preparation—making a delayed start the more reasonable option.
