Joao Mario is on the verge of becoming a new Juventus player. The Italian side has finalised a deal with Porto that will see Alberto Costa move in the opposite direction, with Joao Mario heading to Turin. A product of Porto’s youth academy, the Portuguese full-back has established himself over the years as a reliable presence on the right flank, having made 181 official appearances for the Dragões.
From a technical standpoint, Joao Mario is the archetype of the modern full-back. Quick, strong and athletic, he regularly pushes forward on the right wing and is particularly effective with his crossing. While naturally inclined to join the attack, he has also made notable improvements in his defensive duties. The agreement with Juventus includes a swap deal and an additional €3 million paid by the Portuguese club—an offer that the Bianconeri have accepted.
