Former Hellas Verona coach on the bench, notable departures, and several incoming transfers: let’s explore the new Lazio

If it’s not a revolution, it’s very close. The new Lazio, under Marco Baroni, is planning the upcoming season with several new faces in the squad. First of all, three of the “veterans” have bid farewell, closing a chapter with their departure. We’re talking about the 31-year-old Brazilian Felipe Anderson, who, after eight years in total at Lazio, has returned to Brazil with Palmeiras.

Luis Alberto, after much discontent, has also left, with the 31-year-old Spanish midfielder choosing Qatar, signing with Al Duhail. The Biancocelesti president earned 10 million euros from the sale of the "Wizard," and an additional 3 million euros from Ciro Immobile, the club’s top scorer with 207 goals, who will now compete in the Turkish Super Lig with Besiktas.

Lazio has also seen many incoming transfers. Portuguese player Nuno Tavares has strengthened the left flank, and in the attacking midfield, investments have been made in Dutch player Tijjani Noslin, Loum Tchaouna, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Lastly, Gaetano Castrovilli, the former Fiorentina player, has joined the Biancocelesti as a free agent.

After finishing seventh in the league last season, the new Lazio under Baroni—former Hellas Verona coach who performed a miracle last year by securing an unexpected survival—is ready to bounce back and surprise everyone. The season will kick off on Sunday, August 18, at 8:45 PM at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome against newly promoted Venezia.

The third matchday brings an interesting Lazio-Milan clash, scheduled for Saturday, August 31, at 8:45 PM. On October 20, Lazio will visit Thiago Motta’s Juventus on the eighth matchday, while the away game at Napoli's Maradona Stadium is scheduled for December 8. Right after that, Lazio will host reigning champions Inter on December 15. Atalanta will visit the Olimpico on December 29, while the highly anticipated Rome derby against Roma will take place in the new year on January 5, 2025, marking the last matchday of the first half of the season.

It will be interesting to see this transformed and youthful Lazio, which seems intent on having a high-level season both in the league and in the Europa League.
