De Zerbi’s side climbs to second with a comeback win over Monaco. Rennes scores five to escape the relegation zone

The biggest surprise of the Ligue 1 weekend came from PSG. After five consecutive league wins, the Parisians were held to a 1-1 home draw by second-to-last Nantes, who have just 11 points. Hakimi, the former Inter star, scored in the second minute to give PSG an early lead, but the visitors responded through Abline and caused the hosts significant problems at the Parc des Princes.

Marseille took full advantage of PSG’s misstep under the guidance of De Zerbi and Rabiot. The former Sassuolo manager led his team to a 2-1 comeback victory in a crucial clash against Monaco, ending a four-year winless streak at home against the Monegasques (last victory was another 2-1 in December 2020). The win sees Marseille draw level with Monaco in the standings.

Elsewhere, Lille, fresh off a Champions League win against Bologna, couldn’t find a way past Montpellier. Despite two penalties converted by David, Lille suffered a blow in stoppage time when Nordin equalized to make it 2-2. Lyon, however, celebrated a resounding 4-1 victory over Nice, powered by a hat-trick from Lacazette and a goal from former Roma player Veretout. The result was crucial for their push toward European qualification, though uncertainty looms due to a recent ruling threatening relegation at the end of the season if the club fails to address its financial shortfall.

Another pivotal clash was Reims vs. Lens, where the visitors secured a 2-0 victory, leapfrogging their rivals in the standings and edging closer to a European spot.

At the bottom of the table, Rennes achieved the most significant win, a dominant 5-0 triumph over Saint Etienne, lifting them out of the relegation zone—for now. Angers also grabbed a narrow victory, while Brest overcame Strasbourg. The 13th matchday concluded with Toulouse defeating Auxerre.
