Endless woes for Manchester City as Guardiola’s team falls at Villa Park. Arsenal hit five against Crystal Palace

A dominant performance by Arne Slot’s Liverpool saw them thrash Tottenham 6-3 in a thrilling, goal-laden encounter. The Reds now sit at the top of the Premier League with 39 points, four clear of second-placed Chelsea, despite having a game in hand. Liverpool’s attacking firepower was on full display, with braces from Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah (now the league’s top scorer with 15 goals, ahead of Haaland on 13), alongside goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Tottenham’s goals, courtesy of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke, proved insufficient. Interestingly, despite their six-goal haul, Liverpool’s tally of 37 goals is only the second-best in the league, tied with Chelsea and behind Tottenham’s 39.

Manchester City’s dismal run continued with a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa. Goals from Jhon Durán and Morgan Rogers secured the win for the Villans, while Phil Foden’s late strike was a mere consolation. Guardiola’s side, now seventh with 27 points (six losses in their last eight league matches), was overtaken by Villa.

Nottingham Forest is flying high, securing a 2-0 away victory over Brentford thanks to goals from Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga. Under Nuno Espírito Santo, Forest have won three consecutive matches (four of their last five) and sit in fourth place with 31 points. Two points ahead are Arsenal, who crushed Crystal Palace 5-1 in their second London derby against them in a matter of days (having knocked them out of the Carabao Cup quarterfinals). Gabriel Jesus scored twice, following his midweek hat-trick, with Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Declan Rice also on the scoresheet.

Chelsea’s winning streak under Enzo Maresca ended at five games, as they were held to a goalless draw by Everton at Goodison Park. Meanwhile, Bournemouth pulled off a stunning 3-0 win at Old Trafford, their fourth victory in five matches. Goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert, and Antoine Semenyo dismantled Manchester United, handing Ruben Amorim’s side their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat. Bournemouth are now fifth with 28 points, tied with Aston Villa, while United plummets to 13th with just 22 points.

Newcastle cruised to a 4-0 victory over Ipswich, with Alexander Isak scoring a hat-trick and Jacob Murphy adding another. This marked the Magpies’ second consecutive win, following a four-goal display against Leicester in the previous round. Leicester, managed by Ruud Van Nistelrooy, suffered their second straight loss, falling 3-0 at home to Vítor Pereira’s Wolverhampton. Goals from Gonçalo Guedes, Rodrigo Gomes, and Matheus Cunha secured the Wolves’ win. Leicester now sit fourth from bottom with 14 points, just ahead of Wolves on 12.

Elsewhere, West Ham drew 1-1 at home to Brighton, with goals from Mats Wieffer and Mohammed Kudus, while Marco Silva’s Fulham were held to a 0-0 stalemate by bottom-placed Southampton, now under former Verona, Torino, and Roma boss Ivan Jurić.
