Both teams are now three wins away from securing a spot in the America’s Cup final against New Zealand. Today, races 9 and 10 will be held, and Team Prada Pirelli or the British crew could reach the first match point if one of them wins both races.
Race 7 severely tested the expertise and experience of the Italian carbon-fiber giant. After a good start, due to strong winds (near the maximum limit of 21 knots), Luna Rossa suffered a failure in the right foil arm, another technical malfunction following last Sunday’s issues. This damage worked to the advantage of INEOS, and Sir Ben Ainslie’s team took full advantage of their rival's problems, pulling ahead to 4-3.
However, Team Prada Pirelli didn’t give up. Despite having only 45 minutes for repairs and a damaged boat, the team managed to return to the water for the second race of the day. Thanks to the shore team's efforts and the crew’s determination, Luna Rossa capitalized on a mistake by INEOS Britannia and executed a flawless race. With a solid, error-free performance, they crossed the finish line 16 seconds ahead, tying the score at 4-4.
