The Belgian striker opens up about his love for the city, his bond with Conte, and the team’s hunger: “We want more, we’re not satisfied”

Romelu Lukaku has found a new home in Naples—and he’s not hiding it. Speaking in a radio interview, the Belgian forward shared his passion for the club, his goals, and what drives him ahead of the crucial clash with Milan: “Every match is a final for us, and that’s how we train for it. The team is united, and we’re hungry. Personally, I feel more Neapolitan with each passing day.”

Since his arrival in late August, Lukaku says he immediately felt the emotional weight of wearing the Napoli shirt: “It took me just a couple of days to realize what this club means to the people. Dries Mertens had told me a lot, and he was right. It’s a unique energy—one that pushes you to give everything.”

He’s also closing in on a major milestone: 400 career goals. But that’s not where his focus lies: “If it comes against Milan, great. But what matters most is the team’s performance. Against a side like that, you need discipline and belief in the work we’re doing with the coach.”

Speaking of Antonio Conte, Lukaku revealed how their reunion came about: “He called me early in the summer, and I said yes right away. He knows exactly what I need to perform. But he’s tough on me, even more than with others. That’s how I like it—it keeps me growing.”

When asked about the title race, he was honest: “Inter are the favorites, no question. They have depth and quality. But we’re here to fight. No one expected us to be in this position, and now we want to make it count.”

Off the pitch, Lukaku is embracing life in Naples: “Mertens introduced me to amazing people. He recommended Posillipo, and walking by the sea brings me peace. I haven’t seen the islands yet, training comes first. But we do unwind sometimes—on Tuesdays we have Call of Duty tournaments with a dozen teammates.”

Still, it’s the atmosphere on matchday that leaves the biggest mark: “Scoring my first goal at the Maradona was emotional. You feel the roar of the fans—it's not just noise, it's a force that pushes you forward.”

As for the future? “I’m considering becoming a coach. I’ll start my UEFA A and B licenses at the end of the season. But right now, it’s all about the present—and Napoli.”
