Manchester City have officially announced that Kolo Touré will take on the role of assistant coach to Pep Guardiola on a permanent basis. The Ivorian, who had been part of the first-team setup during the Club World Cup, will now be fully integrated into the senior coaching team.
Touré returns to the bench at a club where he spent four seasons as a player (2009–2013), helping the Citizens lift the Premier League title. Last season, he worked with the U18 squad, assisting head coach Oliver Reiss in their successful campaign to win the Premier League Under-18 North. They also reached the national title final and the FA Youth Cup final, narrowly losing both to Aston Villa.
Touré’s coaching career spans multiple levels. He began with the Ivory Coast national team, then joined Brendan Rodgers’ staff at both Celtic and Leicester City, before taking on his first head coach role at Wigan Athletic.
Sporting director Hugo Viana welcomed the move: “We’re delighted to formally add Kolo to the first-team coaching setup. He brings a wealth of top-level experience and a deep understanding of Manchester City, both on and off the pitch”.
