Marc Marquez is on a roll. After his comeback win at his home Grand Prix in Aragon, the Spanish rider triumphs again in San Marino at the end of a race influenced by the weather. Pecco Bagnaia also has reason to smile, thanking Martin for his strategic error: the Italian finishes second, clawing back 19 points from the current world leader, bringing the gap down to just 7 points.
The race started chaotically, with heavy rain lasting only a few minutes. Some riders decided to pit and change bikes, only to return and switch back to their dry setup. Among them was Martin, who ended up finishing 15th, a lap behind. Morbidelli retired while in third position, and Fernandez and Aleix Espargaro were also forced to withdraw.
The race seemed set for a showdown between the two championship leaders, Martin and Bagnaia. The Spaniard overtook Bezzecchi and Morbidelli at the start, quickly slotting in behind the world champion. At the beginning of the second lap, he nearly collided with Bagnaia, setting the stage for another intense duel.
However, everything changed on the seventh lap: after the rain, Martin pitted to change tires, while Bagnaia gambled by staying on track. By the time Martin returned, the rain had already stopped, forcing him to switch back to dry tires, costing him significant time.
Marc Marquez took full advantage, emerging as the dominant force in these uncertain conditions. Starting ninth, the Spaniard finished first with a three-second lead over Bagnaia. Martin's advantage over the Italian is now down to 7 points, with Marquez narrowing his own gap in the championship to 53 points. With seven races remaining, the battle for the title is far from over.
