The Grand Prix of the Americas delivered drama, strategy twists, and a new winner. Francesco Bagnaia returned to the top step of the podium with a commanding performance in Austin, earning his first-ever win at the Texas circuit. The Ducati rider capitalized on a race-defining crash by Marc Marquez, who had been dominating until his fall on lap nine.
The race kicked off under uncertain weather conditions, with riders making a late switch to slick tires just minutes before lights out. The track, damp from earlier rain, dried quickly, forcing last-second strategy calls. Leading the charge in those early laps was Marc Marquez, aggressive and determined. But his race ended abruptly when he lost control at Turn 4, striking the kerb with both wheels and crashing out. Though he attempted to rejoin the race, a broken footpeg forced his retirement.
Bagnaia kept his cool and executed a brilliant overtake on Alex Marquez, showcasing his trademark late-braking skill. Di Giannantonio rounded out the podium with a strong third-place finish, while Morbidelli and Miller completed the top five.
With this result, Alex Marquez becomes the new championship leader, one point ahead of his brother and 12 clear of Bagnaia. The top ten featured a solid group including Bezzecchi, Bastianini, Marini, Ogura, and Quartararo, while Mir, Acosta, Zarco, and Aldeguer all crashed out.
In the support categories, Jake Dixon claimed victory in Moto2, taking over the championship lead with 59 points, while José Antonio Rueda won the Moto3 race. The championship resumes in two weeks’ time under the lights of Qatar.
