Flawless display by the Italian No. 2 as a struggling Berrettini bows out early. Now a high-stakes clash with the defending champion

Lorenzo Musetti secured a convincing win over Matteo Berrettini to reach the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, dominating their all-Italian showdown in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The much-anticipated match turned into a one-sided affair, with Berrettini visibly off rhythm and hampered by physical issues.

After an impressive performance against Zverev earlier this week, Berrettini failed to replicate that form. His forehand misfired repeatedly, totaling 27 unforced errors, as Musetti calmly held his nerve and exploited his opponent’s struggles. A solid serve and a composed baseline game were enough to take control of the first set in just over 40 minutes.

In the second set, Berrettini showed signs of pain and even called the physio for his right foot, but by then Musetti was already dictating the pace. The 23-year-old wrapped up the match with authority, sealing victory after just over 90 minutes.

Next up for Musetti is a tough test against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the tournament’s sixth seed and two-time champion. The Greek has won all five of their previous encounters—but this version of Musetti might be ready to rewrite the script.
