The Italian Team is already breaking records. The delegation for the Paris Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, is historic. A total of 403 Italian athletes (209 men and 194 women), led by flag bearers Arianna Errigo and Gianmarco Tamberi, will compete in 34 disciplines. More than the previous record set at Tokyo 2020 (384 athletes, 197 men and 187 women).
The youngest athlete is swimmer Carlos D’Ambrosio, who turned 17 on February 5, while the youngest female athlete is gymnast Manila Esposito, born on November 2, 2006. The oldest athlete is shooter Giovanni Pellielo, who will participate in his eighth Olympics in the trap discipline.
Athletics, led by Tamberi and Jacobs, features 82 athletes (42 men and 40 women). Another 37 athletes will compete in rowing events. Other large contingents include cycling (25 athletes: 12 men, 13 women) and swimming (36 athletes: 20 men, 16 women).
Medal hopes are also high in water polo and volleyball (both disciplines with 26 athletes: 13 men and 13 women each) and fencing (24 athletes: 12 men and 12 women). From Tamberi and Jacobs to Sinner, Italian fans will also focus on tennis and the world number one.
Ten Italian tennis players will compete in Paris on the courts of Roland Garros. The men's singles will feature Matteo Arnaldi, Luciano Darderi, Lorenzo Musetti, and Jannik Sinner, with Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli in the men's doubles. The women's singles and doubles will see Lucia Bronzetti, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Jasmine Paolini, and Sara Errani representing Italy. The only significant absence from the Italy Team in Paris is the football team.
