Primoz Roglic, a three-time Vuelta champion, dominated the fourth stage of this year's edition, winning the first mountain stage and donning the red jersey. The Slovenian, representing Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, edged out Belgian Lennert van Eetvelt, who prematurely celebrated, at the end of a tough 14 km climb to Pico Villuercas.
Roglic, who was 30 seconds behind overall leader Wout van Aert after the first three stages, closed the gap, benefiting from the Belgian's collapse, as he crossed the finish line over 16 minutes behind.
