The Serie A pre-season schedule is in full swing, and Roma sent a strong signal with a thumping 9-0 victory over Serie D side Unipomezia. New signing Lewis Ferguson stole the show, netting four goals and providing an assist after being deployed as the starting centre forward. Fellow newcomer El Aynaoui also found the net in the second half, alongside goals from Dybala, Celik, Baldanzi and Arena.
After the match, Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar looked ahead to the new campaign: "We hope to reach the Champions League. We have to work for it because Roma is a big club that needs to aim high".
Meanwhile, Fiorentina saw off Grosseto 3-0. Edin Dzeko pulled the strings in attack, setting up goals for Braschi and Montenegro, before Bianco sealed the win. It was another positive outing for Pioli’s squad after nearly two weeks of intense training at Viola Park and their first run-out against the youth side.
Defender Pablo Marí spoke post-match: “The most important thing is that we’ve won again and that we’re getting minutes into our legs during this training camp. The new coach has different ideas, and we’re trying to give our best on the pitch. We’ll be ready for the start of the season. As experienced players, we know how crucial a good pre-season is to be prepared for the league kick-off.”
The coming weeks promise more big summer fixtures. Como will face Barcelona in the prestigious Joan Gamper Trophy on 10 August at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. Atalanta and Juventus will battle for the Achille and Cesare Bortolotti Trophy in Bergamo on 16 August, while Juve also have games lined up against Borussia Dortmund and Reggiana.
Inter have confirmed friendlies against Monaco, Monza and Olympiakos; Everton-Roma, RB Leipzig-Atalanta and Napoli-Girona are also on the pre-season calendar as Italian clubs gear up for the new campaign.
