Atalanta stumbles again. Torino and Juventus draw, while Genoa scores a crucial win in the relegation battle

The Serie A weekend once again delivered excitement, with goals and surprises across multiple fixtures. However, Napoli and Inter’s consistency at the top of the table remains unchanged. The two sides continue their point-for-point battle. Inter secured a narrow victory over Venezia at the Penzo Stadium, edging out the hosts with a first-half goal from Darmian in a hard-fought match.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s Napoli took care of business against Verona, winning 2-0 thanks to an own goal from Montipò and a strike by Anguissa. The Partenopei hold a four-point lead at the top of the table, although Inter still have two games in hand (against Bologna and Fiorentina). The Nerazzurri must win those matches to avoid falling further behind their main rivals.

Atalanta, however, failed to keep pace, only managing a 0-0 draw against Udinese. Gasperini’s side looked sluggish, echoing their performance in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal. With a game in hand against Juventus, the Bergamo side still has a chance to close the gap with Napoli.

Juventus, who will face Atalanta next, also missed out on three points after drawing 1-1 in the Turin derby. Yildiz’s goal was not enough, as Vlasic netted the equalizer for Torino, marking Juventus’s 12th draw in 19 matches—a frustrating stat matched only by Mancini’s Inter, who recorded 13 draws in a single half of a season.

Disappointments were also in store for Lazio and Milan. The Biancocelesti narrowly avoided defeat against Como at the Stadio Olimpico, salvaging a 1-1 draw in the end. It’s been a tough period for Baroni’s men following their derby loss. Meanwhile, Milan only managed a draw against Cagliari at San Siro, seemingly still recovering from their Supercoppa efforts. Conceição’s side currently sits eighth with 28 points and two games to make up.

The match between Bologna and Roma was packed with drama, as the Giallorossi equalized at the last second with a penalty from Dovbyk. Saelemaekers, facing his former club, opened the scoring for Roma, but Bologna took the lead thanks to goals from Dallinga and Ferguson. In stoppage time, Dovbyk’s cool finish salvaged a crucial point for Ranieri’s side.

In the relegation zone, both Lecce and Genoa secured vital wins. Lecce impressed with a 3-1 triumph over Empoli at the Castellani, with Krsotvic netting a brace. At the Marassi, Frendrup’s goal—helped by a fortunate deflection—secured three points for Genoa, much to the delight of new majority investor Sucu, who attended his first home match.
