Title, Europe and survival still up for grabs as Lega Serie A imposes strict scheduling to ensure a fair finale

Lega Serie A has officially confirmed the fixture list for Matchday 37 of the 2024/25 season, and it’s shaping up to be a dramatic and decisive weekend. To ensure maximum fairness in the final stages of the campaign, nine matches will be played simultaneously on Sunday, May 18, at 8:45pm CET.

The Sunday evening slate features: Cagliari vs Venezia, Fiorentina vs Bologna, Hellas Verona vs Como, Inter vs Lazio, Juventus vs Udinese, Lecce vs Torino, Monza vs Empoli, Parma vs Napoli, and Roma vs Milan. The only fixture scheduled earlier is Genoa vs Atalanta, which will be played on Saturday, May 17 at 8:45pm, as neither team is involved in any race — Genoa are mathematically safe, and Atalanta have secured third place.

The remaining fixtures, however, directly impact the title race, European qualification, and relegation battle. For this reason, Lega Serie A stressed the importance of maintaining full simultaneity for clubs with “identical standings objectives”, not only for this round but also for the final matchday.

The outcome of Matchday 37 could also affect the scheduling of the final round, set for Sunday, May 25. If both Napoli and Inter remain in contention for the Scudetto, a potential title playoff could come into play — a rare but plausible scenario that would require rescheduling. With the Champions League final set for May 31 and the international break immediately following, the only viable date for a Scudetto playoff would be May 25, meaning Inter and Napoli would need to play their final games — Como vs Inter and Napoli vs Cagliari — in advance on Thursday, May 22.

If Cagliari are already mathematically safe, only those two matches would be brought forward. If not, any fixtures with relegation implications would also be played simultaneously, to ensure competitive integrity. Additionally, matches like Venezia vs Juventus and Lazio vs Lecce could influence European spots, potentially forcing a complete reshuffle of the final matchday.
