Jannik Sinner continues his campaign at the Shanghai Masters 1000, overcoming a tough opponent in Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a hard-fought match that truly tested the resilience of the Italian tennis star. In a contest that appeared to slip out of his grasp, Sinner managed to prevail with a 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 scoreline, once again proving his ability to fight through tough situations, just like the top players do.
Etcheverry dominated much of the first set, with an unstoppable serve and a series of precise shots that put Sinner on the back foot. Despite a couple of opportunities to close out the set, the Italian was edged out in a tie-break, losing it 7-3. However, in the second set, Sinner began to assert control, staying patient and waiting for Etcheverry to make mistakes. After being broken, Sinner recovered quickly and closed the set 6-4, even after a tense exchange with coach Vagnozzi.
In the third and decisive set, following a long toilet break from Etcheverry, Sinner faced three break points but managed to hold firm. After gaining an advantage in the third game, Jannik fought hard to maintain control, as the Argentine refused to back down. Nonetheless, after a lengthy 11-minute game, Sinner broke Etcheverry's serve decisively and sealed the set 6-2, securing his place in the last 16.
