World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the Toronto Masters 1000. Alcaraz and Djokovic will also be absent

Jannik Sinner will not compete in the Masters 1000 in Toronto, scheduled from 27 July to 7 August. The announcement came on Sunday. Fresh off his historic Wimbledon triumph, the Italian has opted to enjoy a few extra days of rest in Sardinia before resuming his intense season. With little room for breaks in the packed tennis calendar, Sinner has decided to skip Canada and is now planning his return for the Cincinnati Masters (7–18 August), a key lead-up to the US Open.

Sinner, who claimed both the Cincinnati and US Open titles last year, currently holds a commanding 3,430-point lead over Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings. He is expected to return to Monte Carlo in the coming hours to resume training ahead of the North American swing.

The Italian is not the only top name missing from Toronto. World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, who lost to Sinner in the Wimbledon final, has also pulled out. Novak Djokovic will skip the tournament as well, still managing the groin issue that troubled him during the Wimbledon semi-finals. British player Jack Draper is another notable absentee due to a left arm injury that will also keep him out of Cincinnati.

With several stars sidelined, Alexander Zverev will step in as the top seed in Toronto. The German has reportedly enlisted the help of Toni Nadal in a last-ditch effort to challenge the Sinner-Alcaraz dominance at the top of the men’s game.
