The Greek falls in two tight sets to American Alex Michelsen. Zverev, Medvedev and Khachanov ease into the next round

Drama and upsets mark the early rounds of the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, one of the key ATP 500 grass-court events ahead of Wimbledon. In the round of 32, Alexander Zverev delivered a clinical performance, dispatching American Marcos Giron 6-2 6-1. Karen Khachanov also advanced comfortably, beating Belgium’s Zizou Bergs 7-5 6-3.

The real surprise came as the round of 16 got underway. Stefanos Tsitsipas, a top seed in the draw, was knocked out by American youngster Alex Michelsen in straight sets, 7-6(5) 7-5. The match was tightly contested, but the 19-year-old held his nerve in the key moments to claim a statement win.

There were no such troubles for Daniil Medvedev, who eased past Quentin Halys 6-2 7-5 to book his place in the quarterfinals.

Up next, Lorenzo Sonego will take on home favourite Zverev, while Jannik Sinner is set to face off against the unpredictable Alexander Bublik.
