Lorenzo Sonego asserted his dominance at the ATP 250 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, by defeating American Alex Michelsen with a decisive 6-0, 6-3. The 29-year-old from Turin, currently ranked 58th in the world, needed just one hour and four minutes to claim his fourth career title, his first since winning in Metz in 2022.
The match was one-sided from the start, with Sonego overwhelming a lackluster Michelsen, who struggled to find rhythm and accuracy. After a lightning-fast first set, which ended 6-0, the American attempted a mild comeback in the second set, but the Italian maintained control, closing out the match without ever being seriously challenged.
Thanks to this victory, Sonego will re-enter the top 50 and can approach the US Open with high confidence, hoping to continue this positive momentum in a season that is finally taking the right direction.
