Four teams will compete in the next Supercoppa Italiana: Inter, Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta. The format will follow the same model as the Spanish Supercopa with the introduction of the Final Four. The Serie A champion will face the Coppa Italia runner-up in the first semifinal, while the Coppa Italia winner will play against the Serie A runner-up. There will be no extra time; if the match is tied at the end of regulation time, it will go straight to a penalty shootout. This tournament will be held in January 2025 in Saudi Arabia. The semifinals for the upcoming edition of the Supercoppa Italiana will thus be Inter-Atalanta and Juventus-Milan.
How did these four teams qualify for the Supercoppa Italiana? Inter won the Scudetto and will aim to defend their title in the Supercoppa Italiana. Their city rivals, Milan, finished second in the league last season. Atalanta and Juventus faced each other in the Coppa Italia final on May 15 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, with Juventus winning the trophy thanks to a narrow victory secured by Dusan Vlahovic.
Regarding Saudi Arabia, an agreement signed last year stipulates that four out of six editions of the Supercoppa Italiana will be held in Saudi Arabia: those of 2024 (already held), 2025, 2028, and 2029. The venues for the 2026 and 2027 editions are yet to be determined.
As for suspensions, players from the four participating teams who are suspended in the league will not miss the Supercoppa semifinals. In other words, the suspension will carry over to the next league match. However, a red card received in the semifinal will result in the player missing the Supercoppa final.
Although the dates have not yet been officially confirmed, the league matches for the four teams participating in the Supercoppa Italiana can be rescheduled for the first available dates, either January 14-15 or a Wednesday in February (5, 12, 19, or 26).
