The Madrid-based side boasts the second-best defense in LaLiga but also one of the league’s least effective attacks

Currently sitting 11th in LaLiga, Getafe has carved out a unique record in European football. The club from Madrid’s metropolitan area holds an unprecedented statistic across Europe’s top leagues: in all 24 league matches played so far, not a single game has featured more than three goals. In fact, 20 of those matches have ended with two goals or fewer.

It’s no surprise, then, that Getafe has the second-strongest defense in LaLiga, conceding just 18 goals. However, this defensive solidity comes at a cost—only 20 goals scored, making their attack one of the least productive in the competition.

They aren’t alone in this low-scoring trend. Real Sociedad, another Spanish side, is close to matching this record. The Basque club, set to face Real Betis tomorrow, has yet to see a game exceed three goals in their 23 league fixtures so far. If tomorrow’s match also finishes under the 3.5-goal mark, Real Sociedad will join Getafe atop this unusual ranking.
