Carlos Alcaraz made no mistakes as he secured his place in the Wimbledon third round with a straightforward win over British wildcard Oliver Tarvet, ranked No. 733 in the world. The Spaniard, who had struggled in his opener against Fabio Fognini, eased through with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory in just over two hours.
Taylor Fritz endured a far tougher battle, needing five sets to get past Canada’s Gabriel Diallo. The American eventually prevailed 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in a match that lasted over three hours.
Also advancing were Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov, while No. 12 seed Frances Tiafoe suffered an early exit, falling to Britain’s Cameron Norrie.
Elsewhere, Joao Fonseca reached the third round at Wimbledon for the first time in his career and on his tournament debut. The Brazilian teenager defeated American Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 to continue his impressive rise. Fonseca becomes the youngest player to reach the third round at Wimbledon since 2011, and the youngest to make the third round at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year since 2001.
