As Wimbledon approaches the quarter-final stage, Carlos Alcaraz booked his spot with a four-set comeback victory over Andrey Rublev. The Russian started strong, but Alcaraz raised his level, capitalising on a few missed volleys from Rublev and showcasing phenomenal defence in the tie-break. The turning point came midway through the fourth set: Rublev faced 0-40, saved three break points but eventually faltered on the fourth. From there, Alcaraz remained flawless to close out the match.
Taylor Fritz is also through after his opponent, Jordan Thompson, was forced to retire due to a right thigh injury while trailing 6-1, 3-0. Fritz will face Karen Khachanov next, after the Russian defeated Kamil Majchrzak 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. Cameron Norrie also secured his place in the quarters, coming through a five-set battle against Chile’s Jarry, setting up a clash with Alcaraz.
In the women’s draw, Aryna Sabalenka advanced past Elise Mertens and will now face Germany’s Laura Siegemund. Another quarter-final will see Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova take on Amanda Anisimova after they defeated Kartal and Noskova, respectively.
